Room 3 Performing Arts - Mission Possible

My Class performed a play for their parents this evening. It was based around our topic - Mission Possible. A big focus was myths and legends so we re-enacted the Maori Creation Myth. They performed drama, songs and dances.

29 out of 32 students came along with parents who watched. This was great team building for Room 3 and they feel very proud about it.

Student Agency Breakout at ULearn

As well as doing one day of "Changing Spaces" on Tuesday 10 October, I am doing three days of ULearn (11-13 October)

CoL PD Cultural Responsiveness

Here is one of the Slideshows from our Cultural Responsiveness PD days with South Auckland COl on 28 and 29 March. This PD was very thought-provoking. We got to explore the surface features of culture and the deeper features. There was a lot of sharing around what the resasons may be as to why Pasifika and Maori learners are not achieving comparatively with other ethnic groups. The Treaty of Waitangi and our country's bilcultural identiity was a huge focus.My take away questions to reflect on are:

1) How will I engage Maori and Pasifika whanau with their children's learning?
2) How does my classroom environment and practice reflect the bicultural partnership of Aotearoa?
3) How can I accelerate learning of Maori and Pasifika students in my team?

Learner Agency

On Tuesday we had a webinar for our staff meeting with Karen Boyes around learner agency.

One thing that resonated with em was the need for more self-onitoring by the students, so I have designed some rubrics - "ladders of success" - for students for this term's maths and concept. I have also shared these with my team.

I will put them on the wall in Room 5:

Mult / Div Ladder to Success

Stage 4 I can do most basic multiplication and division (basic facts up to 10x and 10÷) but still need to improve my speed and recall.	Uni-structural
Stage 5 – E6 I am beginning to use my basic facts recall and my number knowledge about multiplying 10s so that I can use one strategy to multiply for a problem such as 6 x 28, and one strategy to divide for problems such as 43 ÷ 6	Multi-structural
Stage 6 I have achieved stage 5 AND.. I can use more than one strategy to solve mult/div problems such as 5 x 96  or 116 ÷ 6	Relational
Stage E7 I can use more than one strategy to solve a mult/div problem, such as 12 x 25 or 112 ÷ 8 AND I can choose which one works best	Extended Abstract

Earth Science Ladder to Success

I know several things about each of the Earth’s spheres and I understand how they interact (rely on one another or affect one another) – making connections!	Relational
I can make several connections between Earth’s spheres and predict how disasters in one sphere impact on other spheres, as well as evaluating and investigating the importance of the relationship between the spheres (what might happen if one didn’t have the other?).	Extended Abstract
